Information
Cavity
The space between the inner and the outer wall of the building
SWL Ratio - Safe Working Load Ratio
This shows the ratio quoted by each of the manufactures and takes into account the different loading
arrangements which are common to traditional cavity wall construction. Our manufacturers test the
loading to BS 5977: Part 2 1983 and are independently verified on behalf of the manufacturers.
Safe Working Load (SWL)
This is based on the total (UDL) Uniform Distributed Load) over maximum span of the Lintel using 150mm end bearings
Height (mm)
The height of the lintel is measured from the base of the lintel to to tip, as installed vertically in the wall
Cavity Size
The size of the cavity will usually be shown on the building regulations drawings and will vary depended upon insulation requirements. The cavity size of our lintels are all shown in millimetres (mm)
Wall Width
This refers to the overall wall width recommended for the lintel. It is measured in millimetres (mm) and comprises the Cavity Width, any required spacing, Internal Leaf (Internal Wall) and Outer Leaf (Outer Wall)
Inner Leaf
This is the internal wall to wall width, measured in millimetres (mm) from inside of the building to the outside. Typically in a brick and block build, the internal block width is 100mm
Outer Leaf
This is the internal wall to wall width, measured in millimetres (mm) from inside of the building to the outside. Typically in a brick and block build, the brick width is 102mm
